Style Tips For Men Attending a Wedding

You receive a wedding invitation in the mail, and you know what that means. It’s time to figure out what you’ll be wearing to the occasion. The idea either has you sifting through your impressive assortment of ties, or running for the hills. Whether you’re well versed in what is appropriate wedding attire or not, we’ve got some quick style tips and suggestions for you so you can be the best dressed guest at your next wedding.

Wedding Guests Style Tips and Suggestions For Men

  • The Season Matters
  • Depending on what season you’ll be attending the wedding, make sure you consider the fabric and colours you’ll be wearing. For some, it may be tempting to just wear whatever suit you already have hanging in your closet, but if you’re attending a summer wedding, and you have a black, wool suit on, you’re not going to be very happy. For summer/spring weddings, dress in lighter colors with lighter fabrics (i.e. grey, linen, cotton). For fall/winter weddings, dress in darker fabrics with heavier fabrics (black, navy, wool). And remember, consider the colour of your tie. Brighter colours for spring/summer, and more deep colours for fall/winter. When in doubt, ask your date what she’ll be wearing. It’s not absolutely necessary to coordinate completely, but it is nice to dress in complimentary colours.

  • Location Matters
  • Same goes for location. Consider where the wedding is being held. Are you going to be at the beach, or are you attending a fancy country club? It may seem obvious, but it’s worth mentioning that these locations will require very different looks. Most of the time, if the venue has specific dress code requirements, it will be stated on the invitation. However, if it’s not, it’s worth looking into the venue to see what the overall style of the location is.

  • Always Overdress
  • Having said that, the best piece of advice we can give you when in doubt is to always overdress. Why? Because if the worst case scenario happens and you feel overdressed in comparison to the other guests, you can simply slip your jacket or blazer off. Was the tie too much? Well, just leave it in the car. But, if you underdress and you don’t wear a jacket or tie, well, then you’re left looking like you just didn’t care enough to dress up for the wedding. Remember, showing up to a wedding well dressed is a sign of respect. You don’t have to be the most stylish guy if you don’t want to, but you should always dress appropriately as a sign of a respect for the bride and groom. Also, keep in mind, if the wedding is black tie formal, it will most definitely be stated on the invitation. If no statement like this is made, skip the tuxedo. A suit is always your best option.

  • Invest in Height Increasing Shoes. You Won’t Regret It
  • Are you taking a date to the wedding? Is she taller than you? You don’t want that, now do you? Don’t worry, we’ve got your back with OOFY height increasing shoes. • Take Your Style Up a Level, But Be Respectful
  • Remember, a wedding is all about the bride and groom. If fashion and style is something you’re passionate about, that’s great. We’re right there with you! We love us some good men’s fashion here at OOFY, but just remember, if you’re tempted to get flashy with your attire, a wedding probably isn’t the occasion. Keep it classic, chic, and timeless. You’ll never go wrong with a classic suit at a wedding. If you want to add some style points, try a brightly coloured pocket square, or throw on a pair of patterned sockets to go with your OOFY shoes. Trust us, it’s all about those little details that will make you stand out as the best dressed guest.

  • Get Yourself a Tailor
  • Now depending on your budget, you may be looking for an entirely new outfit, or you may be looking to invest in a suit. Regardless, if you want to look and feel good at a wedding, you should strongly consider getting your suit tailored to fit you. There’s nothing that will ruin a look more than a poorly fitted suit. Not to mention, it’s very rare to find a suit that doesn’t require at least some tailoring. Trust us, investing in a high quality, properly tailored suit may be an investment now, but it’s going to come in handy down the road, especially if you have multiple weddings coming up.

Do you feel a little more confident dressing for your next wedding? Perhaps you’re realizing that you have some shopping to do. Whatever the case, you’ll feel much more prepared as a wedding guest, if you always have a nicely tailored suit on hand. You can always switch out the dress shirt, change up your tie, try various OOFY shoe styles, and even add different accessories. The suit itself will always come in handy. It’s how you style your suit that will have you looking and feeling like the best dressed guest. We guarantee it.
